Our Father- The Consuming Fire

“The Lord’s Prayer” Poem 8

Our Father who is in Heaven
You’re God High and lifted up
But also You are a fire
Of holiness, goodness, love

Our Father who is in Heaven
Consuming fire You are
I know that that fire is goodness
And therefore I trust, I believe

That fire- it burns with love
And goodness for You are good
It burns with Your holiness also
Our God- You’re consuming fire

And I as a living sacrifice
Present I my body to You
Burn out of me with Your goodness
Things that just don’t look like You

Our God- the consuming fire
I want my mind transformed
I want out of it things that hinder
I want Lord, my mind burn with truth

Our God the consuming fire
I want to know who I am
As one who is a new creature
I want Christ in me to be seen

Burn selfishness and self-centeredness
Burn pride and all hopelessness too
Burn lust and burn out perversion
Burn bitterness that took root

Burn all unbelief, all doubt
Burn everything in me that hinders
For Jesus to just shine through me
I want Lord Your love to be seen

Our Father who is in Heaven
Consuming Fire You are
So little I know of this fire
But I want to burn with it

I want to burn with Your fire
Of holiness, purity, love
The fire of goodness and mercy
The fire of Your power, strength

“For our God is a consuming fire” Hebrews 12:29

“For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite” Isaiah 57:15 ESV

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him” Psalm 34:8

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him” 1 John 4:7-9
