We Don’t Lose Love, We Leave It

Lessons from Revelation Chapter 2: Poem 1

So often I have heard this phrase
That our “first love” we should not ever lose
To Christ our hearts should fervently hold on
And things of earth should never our eyes daze

To lose first love- seems innocent, so pure
As if it’s not our fault we’re not with Him
As if love is that thing that disappears
When we are not so diligent with it

The Bible does not say, you “lost” first love
Love is not something that you lose, but leave
It says you “left” it, maybe not too quick
But gradually as slowly your eyes dimmed

We leave our love when to it we don’t cling
When we don’t love our Lord with all our heart
When other things we cherish, but not God
When we don’t care to spend our time with Him

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love” Revelation 2:4

“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” Matthew 24:12

“Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in Me, that they are gone far from Me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?” Jeremiah 2:5

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment” Mark 12:30

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9

“We love Him, because He first loved us.

If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

And this commandment have we from Him, That he who loveth God love his brother also”

1 John 4:19-21

  • In this world, iniquity does about, and as a result the love of many shall get cold. But I pray that no matter how much iniquity abounds, my love will only increase and become as a flame for God.
  • It is only my sin that keeps me from You Father, my iniquity and my unbelief. Sometimes as a result I walked after vanity instead of loving You and living for You and Your Kingdom.
  • Thank You for forgiving me and cleansing me from all unrighteousness.
  • Thank You for forgiveness. Thank You that You forgave me for the many times I have neglected You and ignored Your still small voice and did my will and not Yours.
  • Thank You Jesus that because You first loved me, now I love You. But if I say I love You but hate my brother or sister, that means I am a liar and do not love You. Help me to always be consistent in my love for You and to always love others also.
