Where Are You Anchored?

Where Are You Anchored?

Without much thought, without much contemplation
I took my anchor out of God and then
Somehow without much thought or even knowing
I placed it in a person- not in God

But anchors placed in people, things, or money,
Or hobbies, work, professions, ministries
Those anchors are not steadfast, they’re unstable
And soon you will be drifting in the storm

And so it happened with me-heart got broken
I could not understand what happened then
I almost drowned in troubled sea and storm
Until I had admitted my mistake

And I told God I’m sorry- I was wrong
Somehow I got distracted in my life
No longer was I seeing God Almighty
As Someone who all answers has in life

Lord, I confess that I was wrong, I wavered
I did not see You as my Refugee, Rock
I got too proud, Your gifts I made my anchor
Instead of anchoring myself in God

I took my anchor out of things and people
And placed it back in God and in His Word
No longer shaken, beaten by the storm
I now have confidence in God alone!!

I wrote this poem this year, but it’s especially a summery of my last year’s struggles. Only this year did my eyes get opened, that about half of the problems that I faced last year were the result of not being truly anchored in God.

“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

And be found in Him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

10 That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death” Philippians 3:7-10 KJV

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV
